Christine Leary

Consultant Embryologist BSc, ACECert, HPC, CSci, FRCPath, PhD

Quality Manager; ILM CertL3

Christine is a Consultant Embryologist with over 10 years experience in the field.  She joined the Hull IVF Unit in 2006 and is responsible for managing the Embryology Laboratory and team.  In addition she is the Quality Manager.     She is one of less than ten UK Embryologists to attain Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists in addition to state registration with the Health and Care Professions Council and Chartered Scientist status with the Science Council.   She is committed to enhancing the development of the service offered to patients and furthermore she hopes to promote the understanding of fertility issues and the identification of ways of improving treatments.  

It is for this reason, that in addition to her clinical role in the laboratory she is actively involved in research and lecturing at the Hull York Medical School.  Her research interests focus on lifestyle factors, principally obesity and it's subsequent impact on the biomarkers of embryo health and developmental potential.  

As an executive committee member of the British Fertility Society and professional development committee member for the Association of Clinical Embryologists, she is instrumental in directing future practice and running the continual professional development scheme for embryologists in the UK.

Senior Clinical Embryologist

Caroline has worked as an Embryologist at the Hull IVF Unit since 1999, relocating from the site at Princess Royal Hospital in 2003.   Caroline has a degree in Human Biology and Health Sciences and is a State Registered Clinical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council.  Caroline completed the postgraduate diploma in Clinical Embryology in 2003.  She is a member of The Association of Clinical Embryologists (ACE) and The Institute of Biomedical Scientists.    Caroline participates in the ACE continuing professional development (CPD) scheme.  She has a particular interest in fertility cryopreservation in male patients under going cancer treatments.

Lab Data Inputter

Sue has recently retired from her clinical embryology work within the Unit, after over 25 years' experience.  She has been with The Hull IVF Unit since 1987 prior to which she enjoyed several years working on mammalian reproductive research at Leese laboratory, University of York.

Sue is a member of the Association of Clinical Embryologists as well as the Institute of Biomedical Science.

Now working reduced hours, her particular interests within the Unit are to take responsibility for accurate record keeping and electronically reporting data to the HFEA.

Deputy Laboratory Manager

Laura joined the Hull IVF Unit in 2012 and is a qualified Embryologist.   She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council as a clinical scientist.  Prior to joining the Hull team, Laura worked at a private practice fertility clinic in the South of England and she also has experience of working at a fertility clinic in Sydney Australia.

Laura holds a Masters in Assisted Reproduction Technology from the University of Nottingham and a degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Newcastle.

Whilst being skilled in all aspects of fertility treatment, Laura has a particular interest in embryo freezing techniques, an area which she researched during her Masters degree and which she continues to study.

Laura is a member of the Executive Committee for the Association of Clinical Embryologists (ACE) and enjoys contributing towards developments in the clinical embryology field.

Laura is responsible for the Andrology Laboratory and the Sperm Donor Programme. 

Samantha Kean BSc

Trainee Embryologist

Sam started working at the Unit in September 2013.  She has a degree in Biomedical Science from the University of Sheffield and has previously worked in Histology and Biochemistry laboratories.  Sam's role is to assist in the laboratory at the Unit with embryology administration, preparation of equipment, egg retreivals and andrology evaluations.

Jane Goodchild-Pasman, BSc M.Med.Sci SRCS

Senior Embryologist

Jane joined our team in September 2014 and has been an embryologist since 2006.  Prior to joining our team Jane was an embryologist in Leeds.
